چکیده

The stress-strain behavior of fractal networks possesses self-affine scaling associated with statistical scale invariance of damage patterns. We found that the damage part of stress-strain curve of fractal network and the corresponding rupture line are characterized by the same scaling (Hurst) exponent, H , which is not universal, rather it depends on the network fractal dimension as H =DB − 1. Furthermore, the same exponent governs the changes in the stress-strain behavior as the strain rate increases. These results were reproduced by Monte Carlo simulations using a fractal version of fiber bundle model.  2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. PACS: 46.50.+j; 46.30.Nz; 47.53.+n; 61.43 Hv

Self-affine nature of the stress-strain behavior of thin fiber networks.

The stress-strain behavior of toilet paper is studied. We find that the damaged parts of stress-strain curves possess a self-affine scaling invariance. Moreover, we find that the stress-strain behavior and the rupture line roughness are characterized by the same scaling (Hurst) exponent H, which is not universal: rather it changes from sample to sample. The variations on H are mainly due to flu...

Evaluating Pile Yarn Characteristics in Hand Woven Carpet using Stress-Strain Behavior in Compression

Many factors such as production methods and structural parameters have distinctive influence on the quality and performance of a hand woven carpet. To investigate the effects of some variables, eighteen samples of carpet vary, in knot density, pile height and percentage of slipe wool, were manufactured. Pile yarn performance was assessed by using load-displacement compression curve, obtained fr...

Hygrothermal Creep and Stress Redistribution Analysis of Temperature and Moisture Dependent Magneto-Electro-Elastic Hollow Sphere

In this article, the time-dependent stress redistribution analysis of magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) thick-walled sphere subjected to mechanical, electrical, magnetic and uniform temperature gradient as well as moisture concentration gradient is presented. Combining constitutive equations of MEE with stress-strain relations as well as strain-displacement relations results in obtaining a differen...

Development of a Predictive Finite Element Model For Investigation of Phases Behavior After Cold Rolling Process

One of the surface defects that arise in sheet metal working is when the part removes from the die. Since there are no external forces to make this defect, the origin of such fail is known as residual stress. Residual stress can develop in sheet metal forming due to non uniform deformation. In this paper, the workpiece is carbon steel with different volume fractions and arrangement of ferrite ...

On the effect of grain size on rock behavior under cyclic loading by distinct element method

It is well-known that the mechanical behavior of rocks under cyclic loading is much different from static loading conditions. In most constructions, the load applied to structures is within dynamic ranges. That’s why a great deal of attention has been paid towards this field in order to identify the dynamic behavior of rocks in more details. Nevertheless, the nature of dynamic failure in rocks ...
